The Counseling Advisory Committee has decided to dedicate a special week to good character from April 19-23. We'll have a dress-up theme each day as a school-wide celebration of a few of the 25 character traits that our state mandates be taught in public schools.
Dress-Up Themes:
Monday, April 19: "Do the BRIGHT thing!" Wear yellow, white, or other bright colors to kick off the week, because having good character means doing the RIGHT thing.
Tuesday, April 20: Patriotism- wear red, white, and/or blue.
Wednesday, April 21: Cooperation- wear a team shirt/jersey, or your favorite team's color.
Thursday, April 22: Citizenship and Respect for the Environment- wear green.
Friday, April 23: School Pride- wear any TPS shirt.
Incidentally, "character" is a pretty big and abstract word for our little guys! The way we define it here at school is: "My character is who I am, what I say, and what I do, no matter who is watching." The basic idea is that having good character means doing the right thing, even if no one is there to see you do it, or if people are pressuring you to do wrong.
